{"id":25,"date":"2009-05-29T15:19:56","date_gmt":"2009-05-29T19:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org\/blog\/?p=25"},"modified":"2016-12-08T16:39:43","modified_gmt":"2016-12-08T20:39:43","slug":"archon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org\/?p=25","title":{"rendered":"Archon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/DOCUME~1\/lhocking\/LOCALS~1\/Temp\/moz-screenshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>You may have heard that the Litchfield Historical Society received a grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources for cataloging hidden special collections.\u00a0 The staff chose the <a title=\"Archon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org\/archon\/\" target=\"_blank\">Archon<\/a> database, an open source archival management system developed by the University of Illinois.\u00a0 Staff are working to populate the database with finding aids for holdings dating from 1776-1835.\u00a0 To date, the Benjamin Tallmadge Collection and the Pierce Family Correspondence are complete finding aids.\u00a0 If you take time to browse the &#8220;Collections&#8221; module, you&#8217;ll see that there are a few others in progress, including the papers of George C.
